Babe Ruth was used as both a pitcher and an outfielder for the first time in his career, because the Red Sox needed his bat in the daily lineup. Ruth racked up a total of 13 consecutive shutout innings in the 1916 World Series against the Brooklyn Robins. Ruth continued his streak of consecutive shutout innings against the Cubs in 1918. Ruth mowed down the Cubs by keeping them scoreless for sixteen consecutive innings, raising his total to a record 29 consecutive innings. Ruth would later be sold to the Yankees prior to the 1920 season. It would take the Red Sox 86 years before they would win another World Series Championship. The Red Sox wore a navy pinstriped uniform during the games played against the Cubs at Chicago’s Comiskey Park in the 1918 World Series.
