  Mitchell & Ness In 1987, the Atlanta Falcons signed Jessie Tuggle, an undrafted free agent out of Valdosta State, to fulfill their need at the linebacker position. By the 1990 season Tuggle became one of the league's top linebackers as the Falcons celebrated their 25th Anniversary by wearing a patch on their jersey. The Falcons, whose name came from a contest held throughout Georgia, were established on June 30, 1965. Despite their defensive ability to thwart the running game of their opponents the Falcons finished with a dismal 5-11 record.
